On the third Monday of each month, enjoy a dinner that doesn't break your budget. In choosing the restaurant, there will be at least one entree (preferably more) priced, with a non-alcoholic beverage, for under $20. Singles and couples are welcome. Cocktails start at 6:00pm with dinner following around 6:30pm.
August's restaurant choice is the Stone Crab Oyster Bar in Lumina Station at 1900 Eastwood Road. We will be meeting there on Monday, August 16. Please contact Rickie Miller if you'd like to join us. The Book Club meets on the 4th Thursday of each month. Members alternate making recommendations for the book selection and leading a discussion of same. The August selection is A Very Long Engagement by Sebastien Japrisot. We will meet on Thursday, August 26, at 1:00 at the New Hanover County Library on Military Cutoff. Book group did not decide on a book for September. We will meet September 23 at 1:00 at the New Hanover County Library on Military Cutoff. Bring a book to swap (can be a recent read or something you read a long time ago and loved Bring something to add to a salad (anything you like is fine--we won't be coordinating this!) Greens and drinks will be provided. We'll have a salad lunch and then talk about our books and swap. No fuss, no preparation, no stress, no cost.
The group is taking the summer off, but will resume meeting in September. We plan to meet September 12 and October 10 with future dates to be determined. The group meets at Syble Solomon's from 1 to 3 with a salad lunch followed by a discussion of books. Unlike more typical book groups, each participant brings a book which she wishes to share. So each of us gets to talk about one book which is then available for others to take or borrow depending on the wishes of the owner. Want to learn more about what the Wilmington area has to offer? Join us as we visit various tourist attractions, historical sites, and museums, enjoy eco-tours, and explore fun locations. If you are on the DayTrippers email list, you will get a monthly update about the upcoming tours.
We will tour the New Hanover County Emergency Management Center on August 17th at 10:30a.m. The Center is at 230 Government Center Drive, Suite 115. Warren Lee, the Director of the EMC, will provide information on the Center's preparedness to deal with a wide variety of "emergencies" from hurricanes to nuclear. We will also visit the 911 Center during the tour. Contact Pat Ford with questions and/or to sign-up to attend. |

Our diners meet the last Wednesday of the month to enjoy a fine dining restaurant in Wilmington. We welcome any diners, single or couples, to join us. A very popular restaurant downtown is Aubriana's on Front Street. We will meet at 6 p.m. on Wed. Aug. 25th. Please contact either Elaine or Anne-Marie if you plan to attend. Keep an evening open on Wed. Sept.29 for "22 North" on Wrightsville Beach and Wed., Oct. 27 for Boca Bay on Eastwood Road. No dinners Nov. and Dec. 2011 will be "Best Picks" top restaurants that were number 1 choices for our group. Keep the last Wed. night booked on your calendar for DINE AROUND TOWN. |

On August 27th the Friday Night Singles group will meet at Circa at 5:30 for dinner, which features a Tapas Menu with Tapas Specials at $3.00 each. After dinner we will proceed to the Riverfront to hear the Bibis Ellison Band which is part of the downtown series.
September activity - there are 2 possible options: 1) Sept. 10th - Shadowlands at the Cape Fear Playhouse, 613 Castle St. 8 pm. A touching drama based on the life of the Chronicles of Narnia. Cost is $18.00 or $15.00 for seniors. 2) Possible date Sept. 30th - Murder on the High Seas at the dinner theatre located at the Front Street Brewery. Cost $35.00 per person. The Garden Club meets on the fourth Thursday of the month in the morning. The locations change depending on the particular program.
There is no meeting scheduled for August. Next month we will be visiting Bannerman Vineyards in Burgaw for a wine tasting and vineyard tour on September 23. The vineyard grows Muscadine grapes which are native to North Carolina and will be ready for picking if you want to enjoy some hands-on activity during our visit. We will also learn about the history and health benefits of Muscadine grapes. All members of the Newcomers Club are encouraged to meet us at 10:30 at the vineyard for this interesting trip. The Gathering meets on Sunday evening 5 - 7 p.m. and it welcomes both singles and couples. PLEASE CALL THE HOSTESS FOR RESERVATIONS. DO NOT CALL THE COORDINATORS. Remember to bring an appetizer to share, your choice of beverage, plus $1.00 per person to cover the cost of paper goods that the hostess provides.

We meet on the third Monday of the month. Our programs will be as follows: August 16 - We will meet at the Downtown Library in the North Carolina Room for research at 1:00. September 20 - We will meet at the Mormon Church Library for research at 1:00. Depending on interest and hostess volunteers, we certainly hope to meet at least every other month. This group welcomes couples and singles with a maximum per hostess of eight to ten people. The hostess prepares the entree, and all side dishes by the guests.
We look forward to reviving this group because it is a wonderful way to combine great food, a small setting, and getting better acquainted with fellow newcomers. |

The Travel Group meets on the 3rd Thursday of the month from 7:00pm - 9:00pm. Anyone who is interested in discussing, exchanging information and learning about travel destinations and resources should attend. Everyone will contribute $1.00 and host will provide sodas, decaf coffee and small dessert item. (Alcohol can be brought as person wishes.) Couples and singles are welcome. Please call the hostess if you would like to attend.
The group will not meet in August, but will resume on September 16 at the home of Debby and Jim Raney, topic to be finalized soon. |
