What's Happening in Wilmington??

Welcome to the Wilmington Newcomers Club's "virtual" Bulletin Board, listing community activities you may wish to attend or support. Events listed are sponsored by, or for the benefit of, bona fide non-profit organizations in the Wilmington area.

If you support a local non-profit group and wish to have its upcoming event included on this page, please contact the WNC Newsletter editor, Mary Jo Wrynn, at mjwrynn@gmail.com. Submissions should be made at least a month before the event and require the approval of the Board before publishing.

JULY

  3-4 Cape Fear Volunteer Center
435 teens have signed up to come to Wilmington in July 2012, but at this point we are lacking $24,000.00 to make it happen. Economic challenges have impacted previous funders leaving Cape Fear Volunteer Center to take a second look at where to find those special people who believe in spending a few dollars to make Wilmington more beautiful, to help homeowners feel more able to stay in their homes, making homes safer for those with hazards, and keeping seniors warm, by weatherizing windows and doors. If you know of a company or individual that would make a good partner for the 2012 Reach the Beach program please let us know. We are also taking applications from 120 homeowners who are low income, or elderly that need their home worked on. It may be a one story home in need of a roof repair, or a person that needs a wheel chair ramp installed. We are hoping to help families within a 30 minute drive of E. Ashley High School. So New Hanover County, Leland and Hampstead residents are eligible to apply. Please email cfvcdirector@gmail.com for an application or e-brochure on the program. Sponsors are welcome to email or call 392-8180 and ask for Annie Anthony, Director. We look forward to continuing to make a difference in the Wilmington Community in 2012.
