From our President

Where does the time go? I know so many of us ask that question, but can you believe September, 2010 is around the corner? September is a time we all remember for starting something again, like going back to school. Well, we may not be going back to school, but we do hope everyone will want to continue going to the monthly meetings and numerous activities of our Newcomers Club for another year. That is why I want to remind everyone that it's time to renew your memberships. Where else can you get so much for so little a price of $35.00? Our goal this year is to exceed 150 members and we are well on our way to accomplishing that. Please help us reach our goal. You can renew your membership at a meeting, or click on this link for a Membership Renewal Form and mail it with your check to the treasurer.

Please remember to get your Grant applications completed and sent to me, postmarked by September 30, so WNC can choose which Charities we will be supporting this year. Click on this link for a
Grant Application . We would like to support those charities recommended by our members as well as those that would have an impact on our local community. I know many of you are passionate about certain causes and organizations, so let's hear from you.

Also, this is the last month for the WNC logo contest. We are anxious to adopt a new logo and to start using it on our website, pamphlets, and general information. Good luck to all our artists!

Finally, we hope to see many of you supporting our team, "The NewBees" in the Cape Fear Literacy's Spelling Bee at the Scottish Rite Temple on Thursday, Sept. 16, at 7:00pm. Remember there is a prize for "Best Cheering Section". We look forward to having a fun evening together.

Where does the time go? I don't know, but I hope y'all enjoy every day!

MJ Johnson

General Meeting

September 9, 2010
9:30am
Social Time
10:00am
Meeting
Coastline Convention Center
501 Nutt Street
Downtown Wilmington

Program: Mary Ellen Rogers from the Sea Biscuit Wildlife Shelter, on Oak Island, will be our speaker September 9th. She founded the shelter in 2007, after volunteering for several rescue organizations in SC and realizing the need for one here. The shelter cares for injured or orphaned shore birds with the ultimate goal of releasing them back into the wild. Mary Ellen will be using a power point presentation to discuss her experiences with various species of birds at the shelter, their injuries and their care.

General Membership Luncheon

Our September lunch following the meeting on Sept 9 will be at Caffe Phoenix 35 North Front Street. Caffe Phoenix has served fresh, innovative cuisine in a comfortable bistro style atmosphere since 1989. It is highly favored for its Mediterranean fare, daily specials, home-made soups & salad dressings and dedication to consistent quality in reflection of their admiration of worldly cuisine. Their walls also serve as a gallery space for local artists with a rotating 6-week exhibition. We will have a sign up at the meeting, and all guests are welcome to join us.

Thank you to the ladies who were our hostess greeters at the August meeting. You really make our visitors feel welcome!
