Important New Venue Information

NOTE: Starting in January we will have all of our General Meetings at the Coastline Convention Center 501 Nutt Street in Downtown Wilmington. To see a map, click here. We will no longer be meeting at the Scottish Rite.

From the President

We need to give ourselves a collective pat on the back for the support our Club has provided to charitable causes since the first of the year. In January, with very little lead time, we raised $1440 via tickets for the wine tasting to benefit Relay for Life. In our meeting this month we raised $400 for the Domestic Violence Shelter in our own little "silent auction" of the treasures from our jewelry boxes. Both of these "fund raisers" were a lot of fun and provided excellent opportunities to interact and get to know one another better. We will present the check to the DVS Operations Director at the March meeting. Well done, ladies!

A couple important dates to get on your calendars for upcoming events -- both in April. The Relay for Life Walk is scheduled for April 23rd. Last year each member who walked (and we hope many of us will this year) made a $10 contribution to RFL. I expect to have final information on the event at the March meeting and we can sign up to walk. Bring your check books so you can track the charitable contribution and dust off those walking shoes. Additionally, the Annual Silent Auction and Fashion Show for the Domestic Violence Shelter is April 30. Let's put two or three tables together for the luncheon. The tickets are $40/person with tables of 8. Two excellent venues to support wonderful causes and to become involved in our community.

Be expecting an e:blast from me late this month regarding By-Laws Amendments to add 3 new positions we need to add to the Board -- Past President, Assistant Treasurer, and Historian/Photographer. These will be Board positions but will not be Officers and, naturally, approval of our membership is needed. You all know the drill on this process from October, but don't hesitate to touch base with me or another Board Member if the upcoming e:blast generates any questions. We will have the first reading of the Board for next year at the meeting -- guess who will be Past President.

Personally, I am looking forward to the Bon Bons and More presentation. If you haven't discovered these before you are in for a treat!

Stay warm -- spring is coming, I promise. Pat Ford

2010-2011 Board Nominations

The Nominating Committee for next year's officers are: Rita Bolick, Gloria Richardson, Jean Conners, Susan Morrissey and Pat Woomer. Please contact them, if you would like to serve on the board or have any suggestions for someone who might be interested.

General Meeting

March 11, 2010
9:30am
Social Time
10:00am
Meeting
Coastline Convention Center
501 Nutt Street
Downtown Wilmington

Program: "Fun with French Proverbs: How French Food Has Had a Comical Influence on the French Language" Speaker will be Charlene Dupray from South 'n France Bon Bons. Charlene has been speaking French and studying French cuisine for almost twenty years. She will share the lighter side of how the food that Julia Child fell in love infiltrated everyday French language.

General Membership Luncheon

Following the General Membership Meeting starting at noon, a group luncheon will be held at The Bridge Tender (1414 Airlie Road) with a panoramic view of the Intercoastal Waterway from the wrap around picture windows in the dining room. Over more than 30 years, The Bridge Tender has earned a reputation for casual fine dining with a varied lunch menu of soups, salads, seafood and "landlubber" fare. Check them out at www.thebridgetender.com. A sign-up sheet will be available at the meeting. Plan to come join us!

Many thanks to our February meeting hostess greeters: Helen Frederick, Anne-Marie Goff, Lynn Levin, Susan Morrissey, Cathy Motyka and Mary Jo Wyrnn.
